Launching a Travel Clinic? How to Have It Fully Booked by June

Travel vaccinations grew 27.6% in 2025, and for community pharmacies a travel clinic is close to the perfect private service: strong margins, genuine search demand, natural repeat business, and patients who arrive pre-qualified — nobody googles "yellow fever vaccine near me" out of idle curiosity.

The catch is the calendar. Travel clinic demand is a wave that peaks between Easter and July, and most travellers book their jabs four to eight weeks before flying. Which means the pharmacies that win summer start marketing in February — and the ones that start in June are marketing to people who've already been vaccinated somewhere else.

Here's the plan, month by month.

February–March: build the machine

Get the service page right first. One page on your site for the travel clinic: destinations and vaccines covered, prices (transparent pricing converts — travellers comparison-shop), appointment length, walk-in policy, and a booking button. This page is where every channel below sends people, and it needs to exist before you spend a pound on ads.

Update your Google Business Profile. Add Travel Clinic as a category if eligible, list every travel vaccination in Services with prices, and post about the clinic. GBP is often the first thing "travel clinic near me" searchers see.

Start Google Ads on live searches. Even in February there's early demand — gap-year travellers, honeymoons, business travel. Campaigns on your town plus "travel clinic", "travel vaccinations near me", "yellow fever clinic" — tightly geo-targeted, sent to your service page. Travel-health advertising is far less restricted than POM territory, but keep claims factual and prices accurate.

March–May: peak acquisition

Layer in Meta. Now the audience is warming: geo-targeted campaigns reminding your catchment that summer trips need jabs sorted four to eight weeks out. Creative that works: destination-led ("Kenya? Thailand? India this summer?"), practical ("Check your destination's requirements — free at your consultation"), and urgency that's factual rather than salesy ("Some courses need multiple doses weeks apart — book early").

Capture the comparison shoppers. Travellers check two or three providers. Reviews win these ties — ask every travel patient for a Google review while the goodwill is fresh. A travel clinic with 40 reviews beats a national chain's anonymous branch page in local results.

Own the practical questions. A short blog post or FAQ section answering what your town asks — "how far in advance do I need travel vaccinations?", "what jabs do I need for my destination?" — picks up long-tail searches and feeds the service page.

June–August: convert the late wave

Late bookers still come: last-minute trips, forgotten requirements, families who left it late. Keep Google Ads running — this is the highest-intent traffic of the year. Shift messaging to "same-week appointments" and walk-in availability if you offer it. Your competitors' diaries are full; being bookable this week is now your differentiator.

September–January: don't go dark

The off-season is smaller but real: winter sun, Christmas travel to visit family (often high-vaccine-need destinations), ski trips, and the January booking surge for summer holidays. Drop budgets, don't kill them. And January is when next year's machine starts: review what worked, refresh the page, rebook the calendar.

The numbers that make it work

A travel consultation plus a typical multi-vaccine course is a £100–£300+ transaction, often for multiple family members at once. Against that, well-run local Google Ads in this niche typically buy clicks for £1–£3 and bookings at £10–£30. Few services in pharmacy have economics this forgiving — the constraint is almost never the marketing cost; it's starting early enough and having the diary capacity to serve the wave.

The checklist version

  • Service page with prices and booking: live by February

  • GBP updated with travel services: February

  • Google Ads on live searches: February, run all year

  • Meta campaigns: March–June, then a winter-sun pulse in October

  • Review collection: every patient, all season

  • FAQ and destination content: one or two pieces, March
